Sam

Veterinary Assistant

Sam is a dedicated veterinary assistant currently in school to become a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). She joined the team after being encouraged by Dr. Houghton to apply, and quickly found her passion for supporting both pets and their families.

Sam’s love for animals is matched by her interest in science, anatomy, and veterinary medicine. After briefly pursuing human cardiovascular studies, she discovered that her heart truly belonged in veterinary care, where she feels happiest and most fulfilled.

She has hands-on experience working with animals in different stages of life and health, and she has a special connection with her own rescue dog, Buddy. Sam adopted Buddy when he was just a fragile puppy in need of care, and with her dedication (and the help of her veterinary mentors), he is now a thriving, healthy 10-year-old. This journey deepened her commitment to helping pets live their best lives.

In the clinic, Sam enjoys learning about cardiology, animal behavior, and emergency care. She is especially interested in what makes pets “tick” and how different treatments can improve quality of life. Her warm, approachable personality makes her a comforting presence for clients and their pets alike.

Originally from Monroe, NC, Sam grew up in a small family with strong encouragement to chase her dreams. Today, she shares her life with her supportive boyfriend, Zach, their four dogs - Jaws, Samus, PitMix, and Buddy - as well as three cats: Ripley, Lord Sebastian, and Sox. They even plan to welcome a new puppy soon!

When Sam isn’t working or studying, she enjoys spending time with her pets, continuing her education in veterinary medicine, and finding new ways to support the animals she cares for.
