Supporting the Next Generation of Veterinary Professionals
We’re proud to mentor and train aspiring veterinary assistants, technicians, and veterinarians through hands-on, real-world experience.
Our Internship & Student Program
At Hambright Animal Hospital education and mentorship are at the heart of what we do. Throughout the year, we welcome veterinary assistants, veterinary technicians, and aspiring veterinarians who are eager to learn, grow, and gain hands-on experience in a supportive clinical environment.
Led by Dr. Houghton and our experienced medical team, our program is designed to provide meaningful exposure to patient care, teamwork, and the daily operations of a veterinary practice.
Who We Work With
Veterinary Assistants
- We partner with accredited veterinary assistant programs to support students completing required clinical hours as part of their curriculum. Our team ensures each student not only completes their task list, but truly understands the skills needed to build a strong foundation for a successful career as a Certified Veterinary Assistant.
Veterinary Technicians
- We partner with accredited veterinary technician programs to support students completing required clinical hours as part of their curriculum. Our team ensures each student not only completes their task list, but truly understands the skills needed to build a strong foundation for a successful career as a Veterinary Technician.
- We partner with CARE to support interns gaining hands-on experience in Advanced Veterinary Dentistry. Our team is committed to teaching practical skills, reinforcing professional standards, and helping interns build confidence as they build experience in a specialty area of veterinary medicine.
Aspiring Veterinarians
- We work with veterinary students and pre-veterinary students seeking hands-on clinical experience in a supportive learning environment. Our team focuses on meaningful skill development, guided mentorship, and real-world exposure to help students build a strong foundation for a future career in veterinary medicine.
Why Internships Matter to Us
Mentorship plays a vital role in the future of veterinary medicine. By opening our doors to students and interns, we’re able to share knowledge, encourage confidence, and help shape compassionate, skilled professionals who will care for animals for years to come.
Featured Interns
We’re proud to spotlight some of the incredible students who have spent time learning with our team.

My name is Emily Stecher, and I’m from Siler City, NC, a small town right in the heart of the state. I am a newly registered Veterinary Technician and earned my degree in Veterinary Medical Technology from Central Carolina Community College. In my free time, I enjoy drawing and painting. I am currently a Technician Intern at Charlotte Animal Referral and Emergency. During my internship rotations, I had the incredible opportunity to work in the Advanced Dentistry Department at Hambright Animal Hospital, where I trained alongside Dr. Gleason and her exceptional team. This experience has helped shape the technician I’m becoming, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.
