Dr.MyraSouthwell

We are proud to offer acupuncture with Dr. Southwell here at Hambright Animal Hospital. Acupuncture in traditional Chinese veterinary medicine has been used for thousands of years to treat a variety of conditions and can be used to treat pets as well. Its main focus is to restore natural balance within the body by balancing Qi (vital energy), Yin, and Yang.

Recent studies have shown that acupuncture has the ability to induce the release of neurotransmitters, which are chemical messengers used by the body. Not to worry, acupuncture is extremely safe, and does not have common side effects seen with medications. At Hambright Animal Hospital, we can use acupuncture to treat conditions such as:

  • musculoskeletal issues
  • neurological disorders
  • gastrointestinal problems
  • cancer
  • organ failure

We can also consider acupuncture as part of a geriatric care plan to maintain quality of life. After a personalized consultation with Dr. Southwell, a treatment plan is formulated that is very specific to each individual pet. Treatment sessions can last between 20 minutes to 1 hour. Typically, we can expect a minimum of 3-5 sessions before results are seen. Keep in mind, chronic conditions will require more treatments. Call us today to schedule a consultation if you are seeking alternative treatments in the Huntersville or Cornelius, NC areas.
