Wellness & Vaccinations

Want to know the secret to giving your pet a truly amazing life?

As pet parents, we want our animal companions to live as many years as possible. At Hambright Animal Hospital, we believe the best way to accomplish this is by making a commitment to ongoing wellness care.

By scheduling regular appointments, you’ll help protect your pet from many common ailments that can affect companion animals. You’ll also improve the likelihood of early diagnosis in the event of an underlying illness.

These simple things can add years to your furry family member’s life.

Preventative & Health Management

At each visit, we’ll check your pet from nose to tail, looking for anything out of the ordinary. We’ll then customize a preventative care plan that will include vaccines, parasite control, nutrition and weight management, and anything else we deem relevant.

From time to time, the doctor may also recommend certain health screenings. These routine tests help us pinpoint and address potential health problems early, before they have a chance to develop and worsen.

Puppy & Kitten Care

If you have a new puppy or kitten, congratulations on the new addition to your family! Our goal is to keep your new family member happy and healthy and address any questions you have regarding nutrition, training, vaccinations, grooming, parasite protection, or overall health. The more educated you are about your pet, the better you will be able to care for him or her, so we strive to offer you all the support you need.

Your puppy or kitten visit will include a complete physical examination to look for any illnesses or developmental issues. A fecal floatation will be preformed to screen for intestinal parasites which affect many puppies and kittens. At this time we will also discuss a vaccination schedule and parasite treatment and prevention program that is tailored to your pet’s specific needs.

Geriatric Care

The average dog or cat is considered a “senior” around 7 to 10 years of age. As pets age there is a progressive decline in organ function, immunity, and physical and mental abilities. Many ailments that affect aging humans can also plague our pets. While some age-related diseases may not be preventable, early detection and intervention is the key to successful management.

It is common to assume certain changes in behavior are a normal part of the aging process; however, they may indicate underlying disease. If you notice any of these signs, please make an appointment and have your pet evaluated.

  • Change in appetite or weight loss/gain
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Urination or defecation in the house
  • Increased thirst
  • Increased urine frequency, volume, straining, etc.
  • Difficulty rising, walking, or climbing stairs
  • Confusion, disorientation, anxiety, or changes in sleep patterns
  • Persistent cough
  • New lumps or bumps

Our knowledgeable staff is trained in the most up to date treatment and management of chronic conditions including: osteoarthritis, chronic renal failure, diabetes, neoplasia/cancer, Cushing’s Disease/hyperadrenocorticism, cognitive dysfunction/senility, and urinary incontinence to name a few.
